HB18-1017: Expand Scope of Psychology Practice For Those in Compact

Position: Support

Summary: Much like the nurses’ compact, Colorado participates in a reciprocal agreement for psychologists. HB 1017 seeks to expand access to psychological care, which is of particular issue in rural areas of the state.

This bill allows psychologists in other states, if they’re members of the reciprocal agreement, to provide telehealth services. It specifies that these providers can provide telehealth services for up to 30 days in any calendar year, which could be especially useful to people with limited access during times of mental health crisis. The bill also starts the process of regulating the expanded psychological care.
