Please Vote NO on the American Health Care Act

Letter to Senators Cory Gardner and Michael Bennet

Dear Senator [Bennet or Gardner],

I am writing to share my concerns about the Affordable Health Care Act (AHCA). While the ACA does need improvements, this bill does not address any of the problems currently facing our health care system.

The AHCA would leave 24 million fewer people covered by 2016, make massive cuts to Medicaid, disproportionately impact those who are older and sicker, erase important subsidies that many Coloradans rely on to purchase insurance and replace them with inadequate tax credits, and lower the quality of coverage that people are paying for by eliminating actuarial values. This is not the fix that your constituents need. Colorado has made tremendous gains under the ACA and Medicaid expansion and Congress should be looking for ways to improve upon those gains, not erase them. In addition to the 500,000 people who have gained coverage because of the ACA and Medicaid expansion, Colorado’s economy has also greatly benefited from having both a robust Medicaid program and individual market. Please vote no on this bill as it would be damaging to your individual constituents as well as the state’s economy.
