Before this year’s legislative session started, we called on you to join us in asking Governor Hickenlooper to end the criminalization of those experiencing mental health crises by supporting legislation to end the use of jails for 72 hour mental health holds. Thanks to everyone who took action and spoke out, he listened. Last week, Governor Hickenlooper signed SB17-207: Strengthen Colorado Behavioral Crisis System. Thanks to this important piece of legislation, we will begin to see drastic improvements in Colorado’s mental health system.
SB17-207 will end the use of jails for 72-hour mental health holds and increase funding to build up the state’s mental health crisis systems in high-need areas. This would help to ensure that those in crisis get the medical help they need.
Please thank Governor Hickenlooper for his dedication to improving the mental health of Coloradans in our state and receive a FREE “Mental Health is Health” Sticker. —>Read the Petition Letter
