HB26-1263 addresses the demonstrated harm of conversational AI interactions
DENVER, CO – Following this afternoon’s bipartisan, unanimous Senate Business Affairs and Technology Committee vote in favor of HB26-1263, Healthier Colorado released the following statement:
“With today’s vote, HB26-1263 is one step closer to becoming law, and Coloradans are one step closer to meaningful protections from a technology that is reshaping our lives faster than our policies have, up to this point, kept up. The harms of conversational AI are no longer hypothetical; they are showing up in our homes and our schools, and they are falling hardest on young people. Senate Sponsors Jodeh and Carson have championed a thoughtful, technically sound approach that holds chatbot developers accountable without stifling innovation, and we are grateful for their leadership in moving this bill through committee. We now urge the full Senate to act without delay.” – Alexis Alltop, Healthier Colorado Policy Manager
