Healthier Colorado Launches Billboard Spotlighting Effects of Congressman Hurd’s Vote to Slash Medicaid and the ACA

Billboard in Grand Junction Highlights How Hurd’s Vote Is Raising Healthcare Costs for His Constituents in CD-03

DENVER, CO – On Saturday, Healthier Colorado launched a billboard campaign in Grand Junction spotlighting the negative impact of Congressman Hurd’s vote to make deep cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) through H.R.1. The billboard, located at 477 30 Rd (Southbound), highlights how those cuts are making healthcare more expensive for the Congressman’s constituents in CD-03. Colorado’s Department of Insurance (DOI) announced in July that Western Colorado, which Hurd represents in Congress, will see average health insurance premium increases of more than 38% in 2026 as a result of the federal cuts to healthcare.

Earlier this year, Congressman Hurd signed onto a letter asking Congressional leaders to protect Medicaid in the upcoming budget negotiations. Healthier Colorado welcomed this action and even ran digital ads to thank Congressman Hurd for the letter. However, just a few months later, he voted twice for the deep healthcare cuts included in H.R.1 despite the fact that nearly 1 in 3 of his constituents rely on Medicaid.

Jake Williams, Healthier Colorado’s CEO, shared the following statement regarding the campaign:

“Congressman Hurd ignored the views and well-being of his own constituents. When you take away health insurance from hundreds of thousands of people, costs rise for everyone. The rate increases for 2026 are already devastating for Colorado families, and we only expect it to get worse in the years to come, as hospitals and clinics may be forced to close under the weight of growing uncompensated care. We’re especially disappointed in Congressman Hurd given the stance he took in April when he called on Congressional leaders to protect Medicaid. Healthier Colorado ran ads thanking Congressman Hurd for his leadership at that time, but we must now hold him accountable for his actual vote and the harm it is causing to his constituents.”
