Mary Kate (she/her) joined Healthier Colorado as the Director of Communications in December 2024. As a 5th generation Coloradan, Mary Kate is passionate about addressing systemic and institutionalized inequities facing communities across the state. She is a strong believer in the power of organizing and voter engagement, evidenced by eight years of volunteering with various local campaigns and advocacy organizations.
Prior to joining the Healthier Colorado team, Mary Kate led the creation and growth of the communications, marketing, and community outreach department at Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute. Her leadership helped fuel the rapid expansion of RMMFI’s model of equitable economic development across Colorado and into New Mexico. Mary Kate began her career building a community engagement strategy within several Denver Public Schools, equipping parents to become leaders in their schools and training and consulting staff across the district.
Mary Kate graduated with a B.A. in Public Policy and Law from Trinity College – Hartford and has a Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Outside of work, Mary Kate spends her time being bossed around by her spirited toddler, running and backpacking with her dog, and enjoying Denver’s live music scene.
